April 6, 2007 Dunedin, NZ
Dunedin is a university city set on steep hills overlooking the ocean on the southeast coast of the South Island. Dunedin boasts that it has the steepest paved street in the world (supposedly steeper than Lombard St. in San Francisco). Dunedin's pride is a beautiful old brick railroad station, with magnificant tile floors and ornaments. Trains still run daily, including a sight-seeing train up into the Taeri Gorge. We ate lunch at a sidewalk cafe in the Octagon, the central plaza, and had dinner at "A Cow Called Berta."
