Tip Top IV Reunion October 7, 2007
Donna and R.C., fellow Galapagos travelers, passed through Keene on a fall road trip through the eastern states. Here you see Susan, R.C., Donna, and me looking very contented after the fabulous dinner that Susan prepared. Alas, Lynn couldn't join us, as she was still in transit from Phoenix to Manchester, NH, but our older daughter Erica came along for the meal and travel talk. She took these pictures (click on the thumbnails for expanded images). In the last image we're sending warm greetings to E.T. and Ely and to our fellow Tip Top IV passengers. R.C. and Donna spent Sunday night (Oct. 7) at Susan's house before resuming their travels.

Deb's Graduation from Vassar: May 27, 2007
Here are pictures of Deb and her sister at the Vassar 2007 Commencement, along with some images of the Vassar College Library, whose stained glass window depicts the first woman to earn a doctorate, Lady Elena Lucretia Cornaro-Piscopia (1678; the University of Padua). For more about this pioneering female scholar, see this page at the college website. Deb's class was the 143rd to graduate from Vassar.
What a difference one month makes in New Hampshire!
Here are two views of the crabapple tree in our front yard. The left image is a color (!) photograph taken in early April from the second story of our house, looking across our front yard to Blackberry Lane. The right image was taken in early May from Blackberry Lane, looking toward our house. (Click on the thumbnail for a larger image.)

May 23,2007: Erica's graduation (May 16)
Scenes from the graduation ceremony at Columbia University School of Social Work. CUSSW, founded in 1898, is the oldest school of social work in the U.S. The speaker was Zainab Salbi, founder and CEO of Women for Women International. The ceremony was held in Avery Fisher Hall, part of Lincoln Center.

He's not my candidate (and he's in the wrong party) but it's nice to see that aspiring presidents still come to Keene, despite the encroachments of other states on NH's invention, the presidential primary. Two days ago John Edwards was in Keene, but it's been several weeks since Barack and Hilary have been here.

April 6, 2007 Dunedin, NZ
Dunedin is a university city set on steep hills overlooking the ocean on the southeast coast of the South Island. Dunedin boasts that it has the steepest paved street in the world (supposedly steeper than Lombard St. in San Francisco). Dunedin's pride is a beautiful old brick railroad station, with magnificant tile floors and ornaments. Trains still run daily, including a sight-seeing train up into the Taeri Gorge. We ate lunch at a sidewalk cafe in the Octagon, the central plaza, and had dinner at "A Cow Called Berta."
